Made from a combination of cement and other reinforcing fibres, cement board is typically used as a tile backing board. This can be attached to wood or steel studs to create a substrate for vertical tiles, or installed horizontally to plywood for tile floors, kitchen counters and backsplashes. It is quite a versatile material, and can also be used for exterior construction as a base for exterior plaster (stucco) or as the finish itself.
