ARC Systems Ltd.: was incorporated in Jamaica in May 1996. The company commenced operations as manufacturer of zinc sheeting with a staff complement of five (5).

Today, the company boasts a staffing complement of approximately 200 persons, a skilled workforce, with over 50 years of experience in the construction, building material and distributive trade.

The business has not only expanded in terms of its staffing, but has also expanded its product range. In 1997, ARC Systems acquired Jamaica Reinforcement Steel Company and augmented its manufacturing facilities to include nails, construction fabric mesh, quarter wire and drawn wire. ARC currently manufactures and distributes a wide range of miscellaneous wires, fabric mesh sheets and rolls, annealed and quarter wire. As the sole local manufacturer of nails in Jamaica the company has competed effectively in this market segment against foreign imports.

ARC Systems began importation and distribution of steel and steel products in 1999 and is now one of the two major players in the steel market. The company's product range includes but is not limited to corrugated steel, smooth steel, flats, squares and angles.

The company began the importation of lumber and wood products in 1996 with form ply and one inch lumber. Today ARC carries the widest assortment of lumber, plywood, hardboard and specialized lumber for the furniture industry to include mahogany, poplar, treated and untreated lumber products.

In 2002, ARC Systems Limited entered the cement market as a distributor of cement and became one of the major importers of the product. The imposition of the additional importation duties proved prohibitive and the company was forced to cease its cement operation in 2004.

The Government's recent removal of the additional duties coupled with the chronic shortages, has led ARC Systems to once again resume the cement importation in June 2006.

Fulfilling the vision of becoming the leading manufacturer and distributor of building materials in the Caribbean, the company established a subsidiary in Panama, South America in 2001. Since then the branch has made huge strides in the Panamanian construction industry. ARC intends over the next five years to widen our scope throughout the region by embarking on an aggressive regional expansion programme. The advent of the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) provides numerous business opportunities within the CARICOM region of which the company is poised to take advantage of.

Consequently, research and feasibility studies are now being conducted in a number of countries including Belize, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago. St Kitts, Guyana and Grenada with the objective of establishing similar business units within these territories.

The company has already engaged the Caribbean market as an exporter, with its first shipment of zinc sheets to Surinam in 2000. This has been followed by subsequent shipments of building materials to countries such as Panama and Grenada.

Undoubtedly, ARC Systems has proven over the past ten years that manufacturing still plays a significant role in advancing the Jamaican economy.
